How to Run a Trend Micro Office Scan in Safe Mode

Scanning your computer for infections in Safe Mode via Trend Micro OfficeScan's command line virus scanner "VScanWin32" is essential in successfully removing different infections that otherwise would not be detectable in a regular boot of Windows. Because many infections can hide deep within your Windows operating system upon a normal boot, this makes it nearly impossible to remove these infections. However, by booting into Safe Mode and running this command line virus scanner, you can successfully remove those infections that are hiding in Windows.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To achieve this, restart your computer and begin tapping the "F8" key as soon as you see the name of your computer's manufacturer (e.g. if you have a Dell computer and see the "Dell" logo, begin tapping "F8"). The "Advanced Boot Options" menu will now load. Navigate to the "Safe Mode" option by using the "up" and "down" arrow keys on your keyboard. Once the "Safe Mode" option is highlighted, click "Enter" to boot into "Safe Mode."

Click "Start" once your computer has successfully booted. Click the search box field above the "Start" button and type in the following command: "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\OfficeScan Client\vscanwin32.com /S C: /C /D." This will force the program "VScanWin32" to open and begin scanning your computer. While the program is scanning, do not use your computer for anything. You will know the computer is finished scanning when the program closed automatically.

Restart your computer and allow your computer to boot normally (i.e. do not press "F8" at the manufacturer screen). Once the computer boots into Windows, the infections that plagued your computer should now be removed thanks to scanning your computer in Safe Mode using "VScanWin32."
