How to Sanitize Light Bulbs

Sanitizing light bulbs is the process of removing the germs and other contaminants that may be on the bulb. Light bulbs, in your home, will typically include the incandescent bulb, the fluorescent bulbs and the compact fluorescent bulb. Each of these bulbs can contain germs and contaminants that spread, whenever a bulb needs to be replaced. You can sanitize light bulb by using a damp cloth or a device called a Sanitizer Wand.
  • Use Damp Cloth

    • 1

Dampen a clean cloth with warm water.

    • 2

Unscrew the light bulb from the socket with the lint-free cloth. This will prevent your skin from contacting the bulb. Wait for the bulb to cool if it is hot.

    • 3

Use the cloth to hold the light bulb by the socket.

    • 4

Gently wipe the light bulb with the damp cloth. This will remove the dust and dirt on the bulb. Wait for the bulb to dry.

    • 5

Screw the cleaned light bulb back into the socket.

    Use Sanitizer Wand

    • 1

Open the battery cover with the Phillips head screwdriver. Insert four AA batteries into the device, and then replace the battery cover.

    • 2

Press the "Power" switch and hold it for at least three seconds. The device will beep and display "00" on the display.

    • 3

Press the "Power" button to select the operating mode. Select "CC" for the continuous operating mode.

    • 4

Hold the want over a light bulb, at a distance of at least 1 inch, between 10 and 20 seconds. Repeat this step for each bulb you want to sanitize.
