Open an instance of the Terminal window, and insert these commands (without quotes):
"mkdir shared folder"
"exit"

Double-click the "Home" icon on your desktop.

Right-click "shared folder," created in Terminal. Click "Share Folder."

Click "Install Services" if necessary. Wait for installation to complete.

Name the folder as desired, and press "OK."

How to Set Up a Unix Shared Folder
The Windows operating system is commonly used, but some people prefer to use alternative operating systems that have similar features. For example, if you choose to use Ubuntu, the UNIX operating system, you will notice it comes with numerous features also found in Windows. This includes the ability to share folders, which can be done simply.
