Press the power button. On most newer boomboxes, this button is located on the front of the unit, usually in the top right hand corner. If there is no power button, move on to Step 2.

On older boomboxes, there is a slide switch located on top of the unit. Slide the switch to the "Off" position. If there is no "Off" position, move on to Step 3.

Slide the switch to "Tape," which doubles as the "Off" setting on some older units, as a cassette tape will not run until "Play" is depressed.

How to Shut Down Boomboxes
Leaving a boombox on while you are not listening to it is a waste of electricity when plugged in and a waste of batteries when not. To save money on your electric bill and new batteries, you should shut down the boombox when it is not being used. The procedure to shut it down will vary based on the type and age of the boombox, but even if you are unfamiliar with electrical equipment, it is not difficult to learn.
