How to Take Apart a Treo 680

The Palm Treo 680 released in 2006 combines a PDA with a cell phone to offer users mobile computing with the convenience of mobile communications. Unfortunately, Palm has labeled the Treo a legacy product, meaning it can be difficult to find repair support. Aftermarket parts are readily available, though, so if you're willing to take your Treo apart, you can replace damaged components yourself. The process isn't difficult, requiring only a few screwdrivers and a steady hand.

Place the Treo onto a flat surface facedown and pull the stylus from the body of the unit. Press the battery cover release button to lift the cover from the rear of the machine, and then remove the battery from the battery compartment. Remove the small rubber cover from the top of the unit to reveal a torx screw securing the rear cover to the front. Remove this screw along with the three others on the rear of the case. Use a flat-head screwdriver to wedge the rear of the case from the front using the seam along the case perimeter.
