How to Take a CD Player Out of a Jeep Cherokee

CD players are great to have in your Jeep, and there are multiple types of CD players available as aftermarket options that can play one CD or many. Whether you are having problems with your current CD player or want to upgrade, removing the unit is relatively painless to do. The location of the CD player may differ depending on the model-year Jeep Cherokee that you have.

Turn off the engine on your Jeep Cherokee and remove the keys from the ignition.

Remove the five screws at the top of the dashboard display panel with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Pop off the trim that surrounds the temperature control knobs to the left of the steering column. The trim is held in place by snaps; if the trim does not come off easily, slip a flat head screwdriver in between the trim and stereo to remove it. There will be three screws under the first trim and two under the second piece of trim on the other side; remove and set them aside.

Slip your hand between the top of the dashboard and the panel you just removed the screws from and take it off. Note the large bolts at the upper left and lower right of the CD player. Remove these large bolts with a number 10 ratchet and slide the CD player out just enough to access the wires in the back.

Disconnect the four wiring plugs: the power wire, speaker wire, ground plug and antenna connection. Set the old CD player aside.
