How to Test a Cable Connection

A cable connection is a high speed broadband Internet connection. Cable Internet uses the same equipment and lines as your cable television service. As a result, cable connections are provided by cable television providers. The speed of a cable connection ranges from as low as 1 Mbps and as high as 100 Mbps for residential connections and 400 Mbps for businesses. A cable connection requires a cable modem to function, as the modem intercepts the data sent and received between your computer and the cable infrastructure.
