How to Troubleshoot a Computer DVD Player That Has Lines

Most computers now come with DVD drives. DVD drives in computers are meant to read and write to data DVDs as well as to play entertainment DVDs. Not all computers, however, come ready to play DVDs right away because the right software is needed. You can run into a number of problems playing DVDs on your computer that may cause lines or other problems. The problem most likely lies with the software.

      Play another DVD to see if the problem is with a particular DVD or the player. Also try playing that DVD somewhere else. If no DVDs play right on your player, it is probably something wrong with your DVD drive.

      Reinstall the player application. Go to the Control Panel and select "Uninstall a Program." Select the player software and click on "Uninstall." Download a newer player or put the CD that has the software on it in the computer and install the software.

      Download the latest video card drivers from the computer manufacturer or video card manufacturer's website. Go to the Control Panel and choose "System and Security" and then choose "Device Manager." Select the video card. Right click on the video card and choose "Properties." Click on the "Driver" tab and then click on the "Update driver" button. Select the downloaded driver and let windows update the driver. Restart the computer.
