How to Turn Your Handwriting Into a Font

Give graphics, invitations or digital signatures a personal touch by using a custom handwriting font. Although there are many font-making websites with different price ranges, the creation process remains the same. A printer, scanner and black pen is all you need to create a font that is as unique as your handwriting.
    • 1

Print a template from the font creation website. Templates are used to take a sample of your handwriting and are necessary to create the font.

    • 2

Use a black pen or fine point permanent marker to write each letter on the template. Letters should align to the horizontal and vertical guidelines printed on the template.

    • 3

Scan in the completed template in color (24-bit) or greyscale (8-bit). Do not use black and white to scan the template. Save the scan to your computer with any image file format -- except bitmap (.bmp).

    • 4

Upload your template to the website. Click "Browse" to find the template on your computer, and then click "Upload" to add it to the website.

    • 5

Preview and then download your font. Most font sites offer a free preview before you purchase the handwriting font.

    • 6

Double-click the font file saved to your computer. Click the "Install" button to install the font. Open a graphic editing software or word processor to use the font.
