How to Update a Palm 700WX to Windows Mobile 6.0

The Palm Treo 700wx can be kept up-to-date by installing the Windows Mobile 6 software upgrade. This changes your interface and gives you new features to use on the phone. Check the Palm support website occasionally to see what upgrades may be available for your phone. Installing the update may take up to 30 minutes.

  Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable, remove the SD card from the phone (if applicable) and disable ActiveSync "sync items as they arrive."

  Open your web browser and go to the Palm 700wx download page (See Resources).

  Enter your phone's serial number (located under the phone's battery) and click "Submit and Continue" to download the file. Save the file to your computer.

  Open the folder where the file downloaded and double-click it or right-click it and select "Extract" to decompress the file. Depending on your operating system you may need to download an "unzipping" program such as WinZip or WinRAR to extract the compressed file.

  Remove the battery to perform a soft reset if the battery is not already out of the phone, and then reinsert the battery.

  Double-click the extracted EXE file on the computer after your phone turns back on.

  Agree to the terms and conditions when the first window appears.

  Confirm that you want to install the file and wait for it to fully install into the phone. Do not disconnect your phone from the computer.

  Calibrate your phone's screen when "Device Needs Attention" appears on it.

  Click "Continue" on your computer after you calibrate the screen.

  Wait for the update to finish and you will receive the message "Update Complete" on the computer. You can disconnect your phone and begin using it.
