The IBM Thinkpad T41 is equipped with an Intel Mobile Pentium M processor with the option of 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7 gigahertz. Weight of the T41 including the optical and optional floppy drive along with the AC adapter is approximately 5 to 6 lbs. Monitor size is 14.1 inches diagonally, featuring a number of different resolutions ranging from 640 by 480 pixels up to 2048 by 1536 pixels.

Featuring an 86-key keyboard with an embedded numeric key, the Thinkpad T41 also includes the TrackPoint touch pad, featuring a dual-pointing system along with Internet scroll and a magnifying glass. Standard memory is either 256 megabytes (MB) or 512 MB with the option to add up to 2 gigabytes (GB). Standard processor is the Intel Mobile Pentium M with 1 MB onboard LC cache memory. A 1 GB Ethernet is available with wireless Local Area Network (LAN) optional. Bluetooth capabilities are also another option. Included on the T41 is an integrated Ultrabay Slim and a CDC slot. Featuring two USB ports and one parallel port, the Thinkpad T41 also possesses two audio ports, headphone out and microphone in. The PC card slot accommodates two Type I or Type II or one Type III card. The T41 is equipped with a Li-Ion battery pack with either six cells or nine cells. Battery life is five and a half hours on the six cell, seven and a half hours on the nine cell or nine and a half hours using an additional battery in the bay.

The standard operating system on the IBM Thinkpad T41 is Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition with USB 1.1 support. However, the T41 supports upgrading up to Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home Editions.
