There are many ways to create invitations. party invitation image by robert mobley from Fotolia.com If you are planning a party or other event, you may have decided to invite a large number of people. While for smaller gatherings you might just verbally invite guests in person or on the phone, for a larger number you will want to send out invitation cards. There are several approaches you can use for creating these cards.
Formal
-
The style of invitation card you send out is impacted by the nature of the event. If you are planning a formal occasion, you should send out cards that reflect a sense of decorum and dignity. This means that the fonts you use should be classic and easy to read, such as Times New Roman or Garamond. The color of the text should be black. Do not use background images or images of any kind, except perhaps for a decorative border at the top or bottom.
Lots of Graphics
-
If your event is a fun and festive occasion, such as a birthday party for your child or a Fourth of July cookout, you can be a bit more relaxed with the invitation. One approach it to use lots of graphics, such as photos or clip art. You could use you own personal images, or you can go online and download images. There are many sites, such as clipart.com, that have public domain images and art that anyone can use at no cost.
Handwritten
-
If the event is a fairly personal one, such as a marriage or an anniversary, you might want to write out invitations by hand. If you don't happen to be skilled at calligraphy, you can write the information you want on the invitations on index cards and then hire a professional calligrapher to do the invitations for you. If you can't find one in the phone book, check with a local college to see if they teach classes in calligraphy. The instructor or one of his or her students might be willing to take on the job.
