Instructions for a Colt Walker Flask

Knowing how to use a Colt Walker cap and ball revolver's powder flask will allow you to determine the load of black powder you need in each bullet chamber of the cylinder. With a nstructions and some basic tools, using the Colt Walker's powder flask is easy to do. Then you can safely enjoy your experience of shooting your Colt Walker cap and ball revolver.

      Open the top of the Colt Walker powder flask and then insert the plastic funnel into the opening.

      Pour black powder gun powder into the plastic funnel until the powder flask is completely full. The Colt Walker powder flask will hold on average about 8 ounces of black powder gun powder.

      Remove the plastic funnel from the opening of the powder flask. Then close the top of the Colt Walker powder flask.

      Set the revolver into the loading stand with the revolver's barrel pointing up.

      Place your finger over the spout or charger coming up from the top of the Colt Walker powder flask.

      Turn the powder flask upside down. If you have the type of powder flask with the thumb piece on the side of the top, push this button down opening the charger to accept powder from the flask. Then aim the powder flask charger at the chamber of the revolver that you are wanting to load with powder.

      Remove your finger from over the top of the powder flask charger. Gently pour black powder gun powder from the flask into the revolver's bullet chamber. This places black powder into the revolver's bullet chamber.

      Turn the powder flask right side up now. Set the powder flask aside to finish loading the revolver.

      Place a 44 caliber cloth wad into the revolver's bullet chamber. This wad will sit over the powder and secure it in the chamber.

      Place a .44 caliber round ball bullet into the revolver's bullet chamber. Then rotate the revolver's cylinder to where the loaded bullet chamber is beneath the revolver's loading plunger.

      Unlatch the revolver's loading plunger from the front of the revolver and then move the loading plunger handle down causing the loading plunger to come down on the revolver's bullet chamber securing the bullet into the bullet chamber. Move the loading plunger handle back up underneath the revolver's barrel and secure it to the loading plunger latch.

      Spin the cylinder to where the loaded bullet chamber is no longer under the loading plunger. Now place bore butter over the bullet to ensure that it cannot chain fire when firing the weapon.

      Repeat steps 5 through 12 until all of the revolver's bullet chambers are loaded. Then place a percussion cap over each of the bullet chamber nipples on the back of the revolver's cylinder. This finishes preparing the Colt Walker for loading. When the powder flask runs out of powder repeat steps 1 through 3 to refill the Colt Walker powder flask with black powder gun powder.
