Instructions for Short-Sheeting a Bed

Short-sheeting a bed is a classic practical joke that has been performed for many years. In this stunt, you arrange the sheets on a bed so that the person who attempts to get under the covers finds his feet pushing against a sheet barrier about halfway down the bed. This joke is very simple to plan, prepare and execute. Once you learn the method, you can try out your new prank wherever you can find an available bed ... and victim.
    • 1

Place the fitted sheet onto the mattress as usual, by securing each fitted corner around the corners of the mattress.

    • 2

Spread the top sheet over the bed as you would if you were going to make the bed normally.

    • 3

Pull the top of the sheet up toward the head of the bed, and tuck it in under the head so it looks like it is the fitted sheet.

    • 4

Grasp the bottom of the sheet (toward the foot of the bed) and fold it upward so that the end of the sheet ends up where the top of a normal top sheet would be (near your head when you lie down).

    • 5

Place the blanket, quilt or comforter on top of the sheet as usual. Tuck in the edges as you normally would.
