Developed by Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp., the first Lancer was introduced to American consumers in 1973. Since then, the Lancer has been through multiple generations and re-designs, but has stayed in production. The current Lancer is sold in four trim options. Though many aspects remain identical across the four current trim models, specifications do vary between the DE, ES, GTS and Ralliart models.
DE and ES

DE and ES models feature a 2-liter, four-cylinder engine with 148-horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 145 feet-pounds of torque at 4,200 rpm, 1,998 cc of displacement, bore by stroke of 3.4 inches by 3.4 inches and a 10.0-to-1 compression ratio.
GTS

The GTS model is equipped with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 167 feet-pounds of torque at 4,100 rpm, 2,360 cc of displacement, bore by stroke of 3.5 inches by 3.8 inches and a 10.5-to-1 compression ratio.
Ralliart

The Ralliart model is powered by a 2-liter, four-cylinder engine with 237 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 253 feet-pounds of torque at 2,500 rpm, 1,998 cc of displacement, bore by stroke of 3.4 inches by 3.4 inches and a 9.1-to-1 compression ratio.
Fuel Economy

EPA estimated fuel economy for DE and ES models is 24 miles per gallon (mpg) for city driving and 33 mpg for highway driving. The GTS is rated at 22 mpg for city and 31 mpg for highway and the Ralliart is rated at 17 mpg for city and 25 mpg for highway. DE, ES and GTS models are all outfitted with 15.5-gallon fuel tanks and the Ralliart has a 14.5-gallon tank.
