A Microsoft Certified Professional refers to an individual who has been certified by Microsoft in the areas of IT and development. Obtaining a certification helps professionals learn the skills needed to further their careers.

Types of Training

• Three different types of online training are available. Users can access free practice tests at sites such MeasureUp.com, Selftestsoftware.com and Ucertify.com. Several sites including Microsoft Learning, ActualTests.com and QuickCert.com offer self-paced online training courses. Additionally, Microsoft Official Distance Learning (MODL) is available all around the world through Learning Solutions partners.

Areas of Study

• The Microsoft Certified Professional certifications consists of two areas of study; Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD). These areas focus on project management, system design, operations management and planning.

Cost

• MeasureUp.com, Selftestsoftware.com and Ucertify.com offer free practice tests. The self-paced online training courses fees are $39.00 at Microsoft Learning, $149 at ActualTest.com and only available with a consultation at QuickCert.com. The cost for MODC is dependent upon training center tuition. As an additional note, each exam costs approximately $125, as of November 2010.
