Getting Started
-
SharePoint 2007, like any other content management system, has its own unique terminology and framework. Administrators, developers and end users all need to have a very firm grasp of SharePoint basics such as lists, webparts and workspaces before they begin working in the software. There are literally thousands of webinars, online training classes, live training classes and books available on this subject. Some of the most popular introductory materials include Lynda's Web-based classes, Microsoft's SharePoint Server 2007 interactive training class and the "Microsoft SharePoint 2007 for Dummies" book.

Digging Deeper
-
You may wish to learn more tactical information such as how to build a page or how to customize a webpart after you've mastered SharePoint basics. Tutorials, on-demand webinars and hands-on classes are particularly valuable for this kind of training, and there are again thousands of options available. Some of the most well-respected options include Critical Path Training's instructor-led classes, Accelebrate's online training and the "Essential SharePoint 2007: A Practical Guide for Users, Administrators and Developers" book.

Gaining Credentials
-
You can obtain formal recognition of your SharePoint expertise through certifications. Developers and administrators who need to demonstrate technical aptitude and experience setting up or maintaining SharePoint environments will find these particularly valuable. The Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) offers a SharePoint certificate program that includes integration and migration techniques, technologies and solutions, and security information. Microsoft also offers numerous certifications such as the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) designations that require demonstrated SharePoint proficiency.
