My Kingston Data Traveler Won't Delete Files

Kingston Data Traveler flash drives have a limited amount of storage space. To make more room, you will need to delete current files from the drive. If you can't delete unwanted files, this prevents the drive from being useful for storing future files. A Kingston Data Traveler may fail to delete files for many reasons including user access to the privacy partition and a full desktop trash can.

  Delete files properly. Insert the Kingston Data Traveler into the USB port on the computer. Right-click the desktop Start button and choose "Explore." Click the drive that represents the Kingston flash drive. Right-click on the file that will be deleted. Select "Delete."

  Empty the desktop trash. If the Kingston Data Traveler doesn't show free space after you have deleted files, make sure the Kingston flash drive is plugged into the computer's USB port. Double-click on the Trash or Recycle Bin. Empty the trash. Then remove the Data Traveler from the computer.

  Access files in the privacy zone. If files are stored in the privacy partition of the Kingston Data Traveler drive, you must access that part of the drive to delete them. Connect the Data Traveler to the computer. Click the "Computer/My Computer" folder from the Start menu. Double-click the Data Traveler drive. Double-click the "SecureTraveler" icon. Enter the password and press "OK."

  Reinstall "SecureTraveler" to your drive so you can delete files in the privacy partition. If you accidentally deleted the SecureTraveler icon from your drive, you will need to reinstall it to access the privacy partition.

  Reformat the drive. If you can't remember the password or still can't delete the files, you can reformat. Reformatting will delete all files on the Data Traveler. Connect the Data Traveler to the computer. Click the "Computer/My Computer" folder from the Start menu. Double-click the Data Traveler drive. Double-click the "SecureTraveler" icon. Click "Settings" and move the slider down to "0%" to reconfigure the size of the Privacy partition. Select "Format" then press "OK" to reformat the drive.
