Nikon D40x User Guide

The Nikon D40x is an entry level SLR (single lens reflex) camera that has 10.2 megapixels and shoots a maximum of three frames per second. Learning how to use the D40x is easy and will help to improve your photography.

Know Your Shooting Modes

• The D40x includes both automatic and creative shooting modes. Auto, portrait, landscape, child, sports, close-up and night portrait mode make up the automatic modes, while the creative modes include manual, aperture, shutter speed and program modes. Use the automatic modes if you are new to photography and the creative modes if you want to be more involved with your image making.

Focus Modes

• Set the focus mode to "auto-servo AF" in the menu for the camera to completely judge focus. Set the camera to "single-servo AF" if you are shooting a stationary object. Set the focus mode to "continuous servo AF" if you are shooting a moving object.

Playback

• Press the button labeled with a boxed triangle to view pictures you have taken. Scroll through your collection with the directional pad on the back of the camera. Press the playback button again or press the shutter release halfway to return to shooting mode.

Rear Curtain Sync

• Set the flash to use rear curtain sync in the flash section of the menu. When the flash is in use, it will fire at the end of an exposure. This makes moving objects "freeze" in the frame while the background is blurred.
