Organic Aphid Spray for Roses

There are many chemicals that claim the ability to eliminate any number of pests from your rose garden. If you are an organic gardener, however, insect management becomes a little more involved. Organic insecticidal soap is one way to keep away from the chemicals and still rid roses of aphids.
  • Identification

    • Aphids are small green or gray insects that tend to cluster together, generally on the undersides of foliage. They have soft bodies and piercing mouth parts that they use to suck the liquid from the leaves.

    Aphid Spray

    • One of the easiest ways to remove aphids from roses is a strong spray of water from the hose. Those that remain can be controlled with an organic insecticidal soap.

    Sources

    • It's easy to make your own organic insecticidal soap by adding 2 tsp. of organic liquid soap to 1 gallon of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray the portions of the rose that are infested with aphids. You can also purchase commercially manufactured organic insecticidal soaps at large gardening centers and nurseries.
