Royalty Carpet Specifications

• Royalty Carpets, founded in the 1960's and headquartered in Irvine, California, manufactures residential carpets in the mid- to high-end range. Generally, carpets from all manufacturers range from $8 to $70 a square yard as of November 2010, according to Carpet.org, an online consumers' guide to carpets. Royalty Carpets also owns two subsidiaries: Pacific Crest, manufacturers of commercial carpets; and Camelot Carpet Mills, makers of high-end residential carpets. Materials

  Royalty Carpets are made of nylon, the strongest and the most common residential carpet fiber. Nine out of 10 home carpets are made with it, according to Carpet.org. Nylon resists mildew, insects and rot. Nylon wears well in heavily-trafficked areas, like hallways and stairs. Its longevity depends on quality. Royalty Carpets, made from a high-quality nylon called Type 6.6, are likely to be long lasting. Although nylon tends to acquire stains, Royalty and other carpet manufacturers treat their carpets with the more recently developed stain resistances.

Styles: Saxony, Texture and Frieze

  Royalty offers consumers 6 styles: Saxony, Texture, Frieze, Cable, Loop and Cut & Loop. Saxony is made of two or more twisted fibers. Although it has a luxuriant plush look, Saxony carpets show footprints and are of mid-level durability. Texture, made of tightly twisted yarns, has an informal feel appropriate for children and family rooms. Frieze --- with short, tightly twisted yarns that curl back to produce a nubby look --- hides footprints, is informal and well suited to high-traffic areas.

Styles: Cable, Loop and Cut & Loop

  Royalty's Cable styles have the longest and thickest yarns, which create a comfortable feel for footing and work best for low to medium traffic areas. Loop carpets have fibers that are not cut but remain in a loop, which makes them extremely durable and ideal for high-traffic areas. Cut & Loop styles have both cut and looped yarns, creating different levels and a sculptured effect. They have medium durability.

Colors

  The earthen tones seem to dominate the color range of Royalty carpets: browns, beiges and ivories in both solids and patterns. Lint and dust shows up in darker carpets, Carpet.org warns, but hides dirt and makes a room appear smaller. On the other hand, lighter carpets show dirt but hide lint and dust. They make rooms appear larger.
