Ryobi Gas Trimmer Instructions

A Ryobi gas trimmer gives you the power to cut larger weeds without the worry of finding an electrical source or accidentally cutting an extension cord in two. The Ryobi string trimmer allows you to trim flowerbeds and edge along sidewalks quickly and efficiently. Because it is a powerful tool, you must wear protective eyewear and clothing at all times while operating the Ryobi string trimmer. Be sure you understand the gas trimmer instructions before you begin operation of the trimmer for the first time.

Adjust the handle of the Ryobi gas trimmer to a comfortable height for use. Slip the shoulder strap on and adjust it for comfort as well.

    • 2

Put a new spool of string on the trimmer if needed. Run the two strings from the spool out the small holes on the trimmer head. Extend each string about 6 inches. Lock the spool by turning it counterclockwise while pushing on it until the spool clicks into position.

    • 3

Fill the Ryobi string trimmer with fresh fuel. Do not overfill it.

    • 4

Set the trimmer on a flat surface. Turn the starter switch to the "On" position. Pump the primer bulb seven times. Position the choke lever to "Full Choke." Squeeze the throttle and pull the starter handle at the same time. The engine should start. If it doesn't start after six attempts, let the string trimmer set for a few minutes before trying again. This allows excess gas to drain out of the engine.

    • 5

Allow the engine to run for 15 seconds at "Full Choke." Set the choke to "Half Choke." If the engine continues to run smoothly, reset the choke to the "Run" position.

    • 6

Tilt the trimmer toward the weeds you are cutting. If you have a curved shaft model, the machine cuts when moving the machine from right to left. If the machine has a straight shaft, it cuts when the machine moves from left to right.

    • 7

Tap the trimmer gently on the ground to advance string as you need it.

    • 8

Move the starter switch to the "Stop" position to stop operation of the string trimmer.
