Although this model is no longer sold new from traditional dealers, the JVC XV-S40 remains in use as a home DVD player.

The frequency response for CDs (sampling at a frequency of 44.1 kHz) is 2 Hz to 20 kHz. The DVD frequency response, when the sampling frequency is 48 kHz, is 2 Hz to 22 kHz, and when the sampling frequency is 96 kHz, the frequency is from 2 Hz to 44 kHz.
The 16-bit dynamic range measures at more than 98 dB. Likewise, the 20-bit range is at more than 106 dB and the 24-bit checks in at more than 106 dB as well.
The wow and flutter for this particular JVC DVD unit is unmeasurable (meaning less than ± 0.002 percent).
The total harmonic distortion of this unit is also less than 0.002 percent.
