Superhero Dance Costume Ideas

A superhero costume theme allows dance and party goers to flex their creative muscles as superheroes some in all shapes and sizes. In addition to fighting for the safety of fictional cities, superheroes can take on any cause or theme. The limits to a successful superhero costume extend as far as the imagination of the costume creator. This theme encourages a person to throw caution to the wind and embrace fantasy. Additionally, there are many established, well-known and well-loved superheroes from which to choose.

    Couples Costumes

    • No superhero is complete without a sidekick, which provides couples with an excellent opportunity to attend the dance as a crime-fighting duo. Some traditional ideas include famous duos like Batman and Robin, and Superman and Lois Lane.

In addition to the superhero and sidekick couples costume, consider creating super villain duo costumes like the Joker and Harlequin. Purchase costumes from the local costume shop, online retailers or create them from items you already own. Use your favorite superhero comics or movies for inspirational images.

    Manly Men

    • Dressing up in tights may not seem like a very manly idea, so it may take some convincing to get the men on board with a superhero themed dance. However, popular superheroes are perhaps some of the most manly men in pop culture. Popular superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, Captain America and Aquaman all wore tights.

    Strong Women

    • For every male superhero in pop culture, there are typically strong, fierce and sexy female counterparts. Wonder Woman, Catwoman and Batgirl are just a few examples of fearsome female superheros. Also, consider playing the femme fatale to the classic male superhero. Embrace the darker side of the superhero genre, by dressing up as the sexy villianess from your favorite comic books or movies; some ideas include Poison Ivy and the Scarlet Witch.

    Group Costumes

    • Gather your friends and dress up as your favorite group of superheroes. Group costumes are a great way to set your group of friends apart from the others at the dance. Some popular ideas for group costumes include the Xmen, the Fantastic Four, Sailor Moon and the girls from "Totally Spies".

    Custom-Created Superheroes

    • If there is a cause or a topic close to your heart, choose a hobby, topic or area of interest and turn it into your own creative superhero costume for a dance. Be the Magnificent Maven of Math or Captain Cupcake or the Whale Watcher. Take a piece of fabric to create a superhero cape and decorate it with glitter paint, fabric shapes and images. Dress yourself in a set of pajamas or thermal underwear, suggests the Curbly website. Goggles make a great alternative to a traditional superhero mask. Other mask ideas include adding paint, feathers or other items to a plain, colored mask from a party store or creating a superhero mask out of fabric.
