Tips to Get Rid of a Double Chin

  • Improve Your Posture

    • Improve your posture; improper posture of the head and neck scrunch up the skin and fat under the chin, making it appear larger. Proper posture will not only reduce the appearance of a double chin, but it will exercise the muscles of the neck as well. These two factors will help you eliminate your double chin. You should look straight ahead when you are sitting or standing, with your chin parallel to the ground. To reduce the appearance further, touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This draws in the muscles beneath your chin.

    Chew Gum

    • Chew sugar-free gum throughout the day. Keeping the muscles of your jaw and mouth constantly moving will help burn fat from the area. Chewing gum will not instantly rid you of a double chin, but keeping those muscles active will slim your jaw line over time. If sugar-free gum is not available, do not opt for sugary gum instead, as you will only consume calories by chewing. According to the American Council on Exercise, chewing gum will also decrease your appetite and encourage weight loss.

    Chin Exercises

    • Perform chin exercises daily to help burn the fat that makes up your double chin. The chin press is an effective double chin exercise. Perform the chin press by placing a hand under your chin and pressing down with your jaw while that hand provides resistance. Another effective double chin exercise is the head tilt. Perform the head tilt by sitting upright and tilting your head as far back as possible. While your head is tilted back, purse your lips tightly to flex the muscles of your lower face and neck. According to Annelise Hagen, author of "The Yoga Face," performing each exercise 30 times daily will reduce a double chin.
