Truck Carpet Installation

Trucks are often used for heavy-duty work or play. From work boots and mud to hiking boots a dirt, the floor of a truck can become extremely worn and dirty. In many cases, the carpet of a truck develops stains. Vacuuming and shampooing the carpet regularly can help, but eventually the carpet may require replacement. You can replace your truck's carpet in one or two hours using a few common tools.

Loosen and remove the bolts that hold the truck's seats to the floor using using the ratchet and a socket. Whether the seats are electric or manual, one bolt in each corner holds the metal "foot" of the seat to the floor. Move the seats out of the truck. Remove any trim around the bottom of the floor and doorway using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull out the old carpet.

Place the new carpet on the floor of the truck. Lay it out to ensure a correct fit. Lift the carpet in one area at a time to locate the bolt holes underneath for the seats. Make a small hole in the carpet with a utility knife so the bolt can go through when you install the seats. Make a similar hole for each bolt.

Apply the carpet glue by lifting up sections of the carpet, applying the glue in a back-and-forth or swirl pattern and pressing the carpet down on top of it. Work from one side of the truck to the other and from front to back to ensure that you glue down all of the carpet.

Install the seats and tighten the bolts to attach the seats to the floor. Check to ensure sure the bolts are in straight and tightened completely; loose seats can cause a safety hazard and may come loose from the floor in a collision.

Replace the trim along the floor and doorway. Tuck the edges of the carpet under the trim pieces before screwing them to the floor.
