Virtual PC Keyboard Problems

Virtual PC runs a copy of a Windows operating system from within an existing Windows installation, giving users access to two operating systems at once. Virtual machines often lack basic drivers, such as those controlling the keyboard, leading to input problems until new drivers are provided.
  • Drivers

    • Most Windows installations come with keyboard drivers installed, but if the keyboard requires special driver software the virtual machine will not automatically include it. Installing keyboard drivers and reconnecting the device may solve the problem.

    Fullscreen

    • When switching into or out of full-screen mode using a keyboard shortcut, some versions Virtual PC may lock the keyboard erroneously, as the software believes another key is pressed when it is not. Press the "Ctrl" key within the virtual machine to resolve this issue.

    Options

    • Windows released a suite of options called "Integration Components" that allow Virtual PC to recognize and automatically use certain hardware components of the host machine. Installing these options from the "Tools" menu of Windows Virtual PC may aid the keyboard's compatibility.
