    • You'll find a bandanna to match almost any color. Bandanas image by Jim Mills from Fotolia.com

Bandannas aren't just a fashion statement. These little scraps of fabric also keep you cool and protect your head from the sun. They come in a wide range of patterns and colors, including darker shades and those printed with logos and fictional characters. Most bandannas are 12-inches by 12-inches. Ways to fold a bandanna include methods for men, women and even kids. Once you start folding the bandanna, you'll find that it gets easier and you can do it faster.

    Headband

    • The headband style is a way to make a bandanna functional. The bandanna reduces glare from the sun and keeps sweat out of your eyes during hot weather. Start with a large square bandanna. Fold the top two inches of the bandanna down and press it flat by running your hands across it. Roll this flap down again and press it flat again. Keep folding the bandanna down, until you reach the end. Wrap the bandanna around your head and tie in the back. You can also wrap it over your hair and tie it under your hair, especially if you have longer hair. Vary the size of the fold, based on your own preference.

    Cover the Head

    • To cover the top of your head, lay the bandanna in a diamond shape, with a corner at the top and bottom and two corners on the sides. Fold the top corner down, to create a flap that's three-inches long. Place this flap on your forehead, with the rest of the bandanna hanging down across the back of your head. Pull the two corners to the middle of the head and tie in a knot. Pull the top flap of fabric down and tie the side corners together in a second knot, over top of this flap.

    Old-Fashioned Style

    • One of the easiest ways to fold a bandanna is in the old-fashioned style. This is similar to how settlers wore scraps of fabric during the pioneer days. It kept their hair pushed back out of their face and helped with the sun getting in their eyes. Do the same look for yourself by laying the bandanna flat. Fold the top left corner down, until it meets the bottom right corner. You should have a large triangular shaped piece of fabric. Wrap the bandanna around your head, pulling the corners under your hair. Tie the corners at the back of your neck, under your hair.
