What Is Akatsuki?

The Akatsuki Organization, a group of ninjas made up of criminals, performs the role of antagonist in the popular Naruto television series. The Akatsuki are a group of mercenaries who fight only for themselves with no allegiance to any country.
  • History

    • Akatsuki translates to English as daybreak; "Aka" and "tsuki" translate to "red" and "moon," respectively. Compiled of "S-Ranked" criminals, the Akatsuki recruits homeless ninjas from destroyed villages. The organization seeks to control the world and attempts to do so by controlling the inter-village wars by producing the cheapest fighting force.

    Description

    • The Akatsuki are recognized by their black cloaks with red interiors and red cloud insignias, forehead protectors with a scratch and clan rings. The organization is proficient in the fighting style of jujsu and earns money through mercenary work. Members are often seen wearing a traditional bamboo hat used to mask their identities. As of October 2010, the majority of the Akatsuki organization has been killed; only three active members survive.
