What Mobile Platforms Can You Develop With C?

  • Android

    • The Android Operating System (OS) was created by Android, Inc., which was taken over by Google in 2005. This OS features Google applications, including Gmail (Google's email service), Google Maps and the Google Web browser, and you can also download applications from third-party providers as long as your phone service provider allows it. As of 2010, the latest version of Android is Android 2.2, and this version comes with a tips wizard, which helps you add widgets and shortcuts to your homescreen. It also comes with a picture preview menu, which allows you to see thumbnails of all the pictures taken with your camera. The Android OS also makes it easier to connect with your favorite social networking sites and upload photos and videos to them, and you can convert some devices into portable hotspots, which are areas where you can connect Internet via a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection.

    Windows Phone

    • As of 2010, Windows Phone 7 is the latest version of the Windows OS for mobile devices, and this OS replaced Windows Mobile, which was the previous versions of this platform. The Windows platform allows you to have many of the same Windows features that come with your desktop computer, including MSN email, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office, which is known as Office Mobile. This platform also features a map feature, calendar, picture organizer and a music and video organizer. The Marketplace hub allows you to purchase and download media, including podcasts, applications, movies and games.

    iOS

    • The iPhone OS (iOS) is specifically for Apple iPhones, and the latest version of this software is iOS 4.1 as of 2010. This OS comes with the iTunes application, which allows you to purchase, download and organize videos, movies, music and podcasts. You can also rent movies via the iTunes TV feature, and the iTunes Ping application allows you to share music with others. Other features of this platform include that it comes with a feature that allows you to upload high-definition (HD) movies to MobileMe and YouTube, and it comes with preinstalled games and an ebook reader.
