Youth Drug Prevention Programs in DC

  • Mentor Foundation

    • The Mentor Foundation works to develop and deliver drug prevention programs to America's youth by focusing on proper training of teachers, mentoring, and promoting overall health and well-being. These programs are available in Washington, D.C. Aside from developing drug prevention programs, the Mentor Foundation offers online courses specifically for parents and teachers that advise on how to handle situations in the classroom and at home to keep children drug-free.

    D.A.R.E.

    • Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., is a police officer-instructed drug prevention program available for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The programming is utilized in 75 percent of America's school districts, including several in Washington, D.C. The D.A.R.E. Dance Program is an after-school activity that acts as a positive alternative to drug use and gives students the chance to learn new dance moves. It was implemented by the Washington, D.C. Police Department in Langdon, Thomas and Turner elementary schools and Shaw Junior High School.

    S.A.D.D.

    • Students Against Destructive Decisions, or S.A.D.D., is a activist group that has become a peer-to-peer organization to educate and prevent against destructive decisions, which could include drug use. S.A.D.D. has offices nationwide, including one in the District of Columbia. Programs include peer-led classroom discussions and education through community activities.
