Curbing is the cement border between a garden, yard or sidewalk and the street which it borders. Curbing is a necessary process and can be decorative as well. In order to install curbing in your yard, hire a cement contractor. Before speaking to any contractor, it is a good idea to become aware of the different styles from which you can choose, so that you have a sense of what fits what you want the best.
Slant Style
-
Slant style curbing, also called decorative curbing or angle curbing, is one of the three most common curbing styles. Looked at it from the side, slant style curbing has the shape of a right triangle with rounded edges. Slant style is a good choice to border gardens, as its shape allows the front to be lower than the back. The front part of the curb is usually set at ground level so that lawnmower wheels can run over it. Should you choose to go with any texturing on curbing, the slant style does a good job of showing it off.
Curb Style
-
Curb style is the most basic curbing style available. It is simply shaped like a rectangle with the top corners rounded off. The front and back of this style of curbing is the same height. This style is most often used in commercial lawns because its higher front allows it to accommodate larger lawn mower wheels. Choose curb style in either plain gray concrete or stamped and colored concrete. This style is unobtrusive and allows passersby on the street a clear view of your garden or yard.
Mower Style
-
Mower style curbing combines aspects of slant and curb style curbing. Its profile is a vaguely triangular shape, but with a divot cut out in the middle of the slanting line. This curbing is able to simultaneously accommodate a lawn mower wheel and hold in gardening materials. It also suggests the shape of a picture frame, which can make it a good way to showcase your garden.
Lighted Curbing
-
Lighted curbing can either be manufactured with lights installed, or lights can be added to an already existing curb. Lighted curbing provides extra attention to landscaping installation.
