How to Find Jobs in the TV Business

There are numerous on- and off-camera jobs that are available in the TV business. On-camera jobs include acting, news reporting, news reading, weather reporting, and modeling. Off-camera jobs include lighting, producing, writing, advertising, photography, videography, and marketing. It is important for you to determine which specific type of media career fits your skill-set and your interests. You can get a job in your field of interest in the media business with some advanced strategy and planning.

      Go to the Riley Guide Web home page to identify jobs in writing, broadcasting and journalism. Click on "Sites with Job Listings" on the left side of the Web page. Click on "Mashable Jobs" on the "Sites with Job Listings" page to find jobs in social media. Click on "Employment in the Media" on the "Sites with Job Listings" to find jobs in television and an article on how to create a demo reel.

      Identify companies based on your field of interest. Go to the Motion Picture TV & Theater Web site. Click on "Art, Scenery, Production Design" to find companies that have products and services for production design and set creation for different types of productions. Click on "Editing and Post Production" to find companies that deal with equipment and services for recorded productions. Click on "Production Companies, Advertising Agencies, Television Networks" if you want to find companies that can put you in front of the camera or in the marketing and advertising area. Click on the next subheading under the main title to get a specific listing of companies within that area.

      Write down the names, phone numbers and addresses of the companies listed. Mail your resume and a cover letter to all the companies on the list and inquire about getting a job or an internship at the company. Offer to volunteer your time in the cover letter if you feel that you need to build up your experience within the field.
