How to Increase the Horsepower on My Cummins Engine

Increase the horsepower of your Dodge Cummins by supplying it with more fuel. Aftermarket performance companies produce computerized modules that increase the fuel delivery and the engine's timing. These are installed by plugging them into the correct sensors, and can be purchased online or at most diesel parts store. You will need to know the correct engine and year of your vehicle to ensure the correct module is purchased.

Locate a safe spot for the module under the hood, such as the driver's side fender-well. Install the Velcro to the fender-well by removing the sticky tape and pressing it firmly into position. Attach the module to the Velcro in the same manner.

Locate the MAP sensor on your Cummins engine. The MAP sensor is located to the rear of the fuel filter housing near the top of the engine block. The sensor has two wires connecting to a stock plug that enters into the engine block. Remove the sensor from the engine block by pressing the release tabs.

Plug the wiring connector that came with the module into the engine's MAP sensor connection. Connect the other end to the module. The two connectors are different shapes, so the connections cannot be reversed.

Locate and remove the vehicle's data link connection directly above the power steering pump by pressing the release tabs. The connection is a triangular-shaped wiring harness that plugs into the engine block.
