How to Install Lights in a 2006 Pontiac G6

The exterior lights on your 2006 Pontiac G6 make essential contributions to the safety of your vehicle. If you drive your Pontiac G6 with a faulty headlight, you put yourself at risk of having an accident. In addition, you may receive a fix-it ticket from the local authorities. It is important to fix any exterior light on your G6 when it burns out. Thankfully, the installation process for most exterior lights on the 2006 Pontiac G6 is simple.
  • Headlamps, Sidemarker, Front Turn Signal and Parking Lamps

      Turn off the engine of the G6, and open the hood. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the headlamp assembly. Loosen the front fascia, by removing the six plastic pushpins, located on the top of fascia.

      Pull the fascia away from the vehicle, and pull the headlamp assembly forward. Remove the desired bulb access cover, by rotating it counterclockwise. The smallest cover houses the front sidemarker lamp, which uses 194-type bulbs. The cover above the sidemarker lamp houses the turn signal/parking lamp, which uses 3157KX-type bulbs. The largest cover contains the low-beam headlamp, which uses H11 bulbs, and the last cover houses the high-beam headlamp, which uses H9 bulbs.

      Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise, and remove it from the assembly. Disconnect the bulb socket from the wiring harness for the headlamps. If replacing the turn signal/parking or sidemarker bulb, unclip the bulb from the socket. Install a new bulb, and replace the socket back into the assembly.Reconnect the wiring harness.

      Reattach the bulb access cover, rotating it clockwise. Push the assembly back into the vehicle, and reattach the fascia. Reinstall all six pushpins, and reattach the two screws that secure the headlamp assembly. Close the hood.

    Center High-Mounted Stoplamp (CHMSL)

      Turn off the engine of the G6, and open the trunk lid. Locate the CHMSL, on the underside of the trunk lid, and unclip the wiring harness, disengaging the electrical connector.

      Remove the beauty cover, by pushing down the tabs at both ends of the cover. Remove the bulb, by turning it counterclockwise. Install a new 912-type bulb, by rotating it clockwise.

      Reattach the beauty cover, snapping the tabs in place. Reattach the wiring harness, and close the trunk.

    Taillamps, Sidemarker, Turn Signal, Back-up Lamps and Stoplamps

      Turn off the engine of the G6, and open the trunk. Remove the convenience net, and twist the two wing nuts holding the trunk trim in place to remove them.

      Use a socket wrench to remove the two nuts holding the tail lamp assembly in place. Remove the tail lamp assembly, and disconnect the wiring harness from the assembly, by pulling up on the release lever.

      Rotate the desired bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it. The largest socket contains the stoplamp/taillamp/turn signal bulb, which uses 3057K-type bulbs. The smallest socket contains the sidemarker lamp, which utilizes 194-type bulbs. The last socket contains the back-up lamp bulb, which uses 921-type bulbs. Pull the old bulb from the socket, and replace it with a new bulb. Rotate the socket clockwise to reinstall it.

      Place the tail lamp assembly back into the vehicle, and reconnect the wiring harness, snapping it in place. Reattach the two nuts to secure the assembly.

      Place the trunk trim back into the trunk, and twist the two wing nuts to reattach it. Place the convenience net back in the trunk, and close the trunk lid.
