- 1
Apply silicone grease to both the inside and outside of the bushings. Install the ball bushing by placing it onto the sleeves then on one side of the lower control arm bushing
- 2
Place the other lower control arm bushing on the other side of the ball bushing. The bushing cannot be pushed flush with the lower controls arms because of the trapped air between the bushing and the sleeve.
- 3
Release the air trapped in the bushings. Place a small screwdriver between the sleeve and each bushing, about 2 inches down, and pry it up. Air will begin to escape. Push the bushings in until they are flush. Repeat this on both sides of the bushings.
- 4
Repeat the above steps for the other control arm.
- 5
Place blocks in front of the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Loosen the lug nuts from the wheel studs with a lug wrench. Raise the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack. Place jack stands beneath the vehicle to secure it. Remove the lug nuts and wheels from the vehicle.
- 6
Remove the anti-lock braking system cable from the stock lower control arm holder.
- 7
Push the strut down and through the hole in the bottom plate. Do not let the the strut come back and hit the fender. To prevent this from happening, compress the strut until the rod is below the strut tower.
- 8
Remove the rear sway bar with a 1/2-inch socket and drive. Remove the two shocks from the vehicle by lifting one side of the axle with a floor jack. Slowly lower the axle.
- 9
Detach the spring from the axle. You can use a jack stand to support the axle to allow more room to work on the lower control arms.
- 10
Remove the stock lower control arms. Tap out the bolt once the nut is removed with an Allen/hex key. Use a rubber or metal hammer to help the lower control arm come up.
- 11
Apply grease on either side of the box that the lower control arm goes into. This will make the installation of the new control arm easier.
- 12
Install the new control arm, starting with the forward side. Line the hole of the control arm with the hole of the box as close as possible. Use a small screwdriver and an Allen/hex key to line it up further. An additional person is helpful for this step to move the axle around to install the back part of the control arm.
- 13
Install the bolt and nut to secure the control arm. Torque the bolt to tighten it completely. Reinstall the springs and re-use the old pads. The springs will be loose for now.
- 14
Reinstall the two shocks, securing them to the axle with the bolts. Use the floor jack to raise the axle.
- 15
Repeat the above steps to remove and install the new control arm on the other side.
- 16
Install the sway bar on the inside on the control arms. Reuse the emergency brake cable and ABS holder on the new control arm. The tab on the guide will need to be bent so that it sits flush against the control arms.
- 17
Remount the wheels on the vehicle. Loosely place the lug nuts onto the wheel studs. Raise the vehicle with the floor jack, remove the jack stands then lower the car to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts onto the wheel studs with the lug wrench.
