How to Install Resin Crown Molding

Resin crown molding is a flexible composite molding. The product is useful when installing molding on arches, rounded walls or corners in a home. Unlike wood, the resin molding will not crack or break when bent. The resin molding can be painted or even stained, if it's made in a finish that can be stained. Though the installation is similar to wood molding, adhesive is especially important to prevent the resin crown molding from separating from the wall.
    • 1

Measure the length of the area where the molding will be installed. Cut the resin molding to this measurement with a table saw.

    • 2

Apply a thin layer of construction adhesive to the back of the resin molding. Spread out the adhesive with a putty knife for uniform coverage.

    • 3

Place the molding on the wall using even pressure so it adheres well to the surface. Use a helper to nail the molding to the wall with a pneumatic nail gun.

    • 4

Fill the nail holes with stainable wood filler. Allow the filler to dry, then sand the surface smooth.

    • 5

Run painter's tape along the top and bottom edge of the molding to prevent the paint or stain from getting on the wall.

    • 6

Use a rag to apply gel stain or a paintbrush to paint the molding. Apply a second coat after the first has dried.
