How to Remove Grease From Inside Your Oven Door

Exposure to grease and oil splatters produces grimy film on oven door interiors. Grease causes oven doors and surfaces to appear dingy and improperly maintained. High temperatures within ovens cause grease to burn and diffuse strong odors throughout homes. The longer grease remains on oven doors, the more adhered and increasingly difficult to remove it becomes. Frequently cleaning ovens prevents grease and other food debris from building up, while creating an overall cleaner kitchen atmosphere.

Turn off the oven and allow it to completely cool. Put on rubber cleaning gloves to protect your hands.

    • 2

Scrub the inside of the oven door with a nylon scrub brush to loosen stubborn grime. Gently scrape off debris with a metal spatula.

    • 3

Dampen a soft rag with warm water. Wipe away the loose debris and grime with the damp rag. Frequently rinse the rag with fresh water to prevent reapplying the particles to the oven door.

    • 4

Open the windows in the room to allow plenty of air circulation. Fill a spray bottle with 1 cup of household ammonia.

    • 5

Spray the ammonia directly onto the grease spots. Keep the ammonia on the oven door for 10 minutes to loosen the grease. Do not wipe off the ammonia.

    • 6

Sprinkle an even layer of baking soda over the ammonia. Pour 1 tsp. of white vinegar over the baking soda. Allow the solution to bubble for a few minutes.

    • 7

Scrub the oven door with a nylon sponge. Loosen all grease, grime and residue from the oven door.

    • 8

Dampen another soft rag with warm water. Wipe the damp rag over the oven door to rinse away the solution and loose grime. Frequently rinse the rag with fresh water to prevent reapplying grime to the oven door.

    • 9

Dry the oven door with a terry cloth towel.
