The Most Powerful 12" Subwoofers

    • Subwoofers are speakers that are dedicated to playing only bass frequencies. They are very popular components, and a staple of almost every aftermarket stereo modification. Twelve inches is a typical size for subwoofers, and the power of different subs ranges greatly, from a hundred watts to several thousand watts. Power can also be measured in dB (decibels).

    Eminent Tech TRW 17

    • The self-proclaimed most powerful subwoofer in the world, this extremely unique subwoofer does not have a paper cone but rather five blades that spin like a fan. The speed of the fan alters the air flow, which turns the entire room into a speakerbox. This subwoofer is capable of playing audio at 1 hertz (Hz), the lowest possible frequency. For comparison, jet engines and nuclear engines hit this frequency. The lowest that most conventional 12-inch subs can hit is 20 Hz. The unit is priced at $12,900 as of Oct 2010.

OZ Power 12.1 12" Competition Subwoofer

    • With 8000 watts of peak power, this competition subwoofer is seriously power-hungry. Most subs that are this powerful are only used in competitions, as the power requirements are too demanding for road use. This sub features Quad 1 Ohm Voice Coils, XMax 25mm, with a Free Air Resonance of 37.73 Hz and sensitivity of 87.32 dB. The cone is made from black glass fiber/PMI material with a 4-inch voice coil and 230-ounce magnets. Prices are determined by distributors.

    Hifonics Maxximus 12"

    • These impressive subwoofers, offered by Hifonics, give an incredible 12,000 watts of peak power. The bass frame features 540 ounces of magnets. According to the manufacturers, "these subwoofers are designed for the highest possible SPL (Sound Pressure Level) readings and unparalleled performance and power handling." The sub features a 4-inch voice coil and reinforced pulp and Kevlar cone. As of Oct 2010, this sub is priced at $260.
