How to Seal a Camper With Clear Silicone

Over time, the seams on the corners of your camper are likely to wear thin, opening small cracks for water to leak in. This happens from lifting and loading the camper into your truck numerous times, and the fact that old caulk seals break down from time and weather. As soon as you notice cracks in your camper, you should seal them with weatherproof, silicone caulk. This is a quick and inexpensive way to keep your camper dry.

Puncture the seal inside the tube of caulk using a thin tent stake, or anything long, thin and sharp at the end. Cut 1/2 inch of the tip off the tube of caulk using a knife. Load the tube into the caulk gun and squeeze the trigger a couple times to get the caulk flowing.

Place the step ladder near the area you want to seal first. Make sure you have enough leverage so that you're not stretching, bending too much or overextending your reach. It's best to have the gun even with the line you are sealing. Begin at the top and place the caulk gun on the crack you want to seal. Squeeze the gun until the crack completely fills and caulk begins to overflow a little. Slowly move the gun through the open crack, depressing the trigger when you need more caulk, and releasing it to stop the flow, until it is filled.

Release the trigger when you're done with the area. Take the damp rag and wipe the crack you caulked, smoothing out the caulk you just filled. Remove any excess caulk. Repeat for all cracks you need to seal on your camper.
