How to Thread Wire Rope

Threading wire rope to create a block and tackle is a useful skill for those who sail or homeowners who sometimes need to move heavy loads. Because wire rope isn't as bendable as other types of rope, like nylon, threading the rope through the pulleys on the blocks may seem less like threading a needle and more like pushing a speaker jack into the back of a stereo or computer.

  Thread the wire rope through the block that will remain stationary.

  Pull the wire rope to the second block and thread it onto its pulley. Take the end of the wire rope back to the first block.

  Secure the end of the wire rope to the bottom of the first block with wire clips.
