A dark office cubicle can be depressing and leave you feeling tired. Brightening your cubicle will not require a great deal of time but you will want to ensure that you are completing the task on your own time. Inform your supervisor that you plan to come in early or stay late to organize and update your cubicle.
Lighting
-
Purchase one or two desk lamps in white or another light color. Not only will the lamp provide more light, it will also help brighten the area with its color even when turned off. If your cubicle has overhead cabinetry, consider mounting disc lights that you turn on by simply touching them. This will add overhead lighting while hiding the light fixture. Make sure you are using energy efficient bulbs to save on electricity and to extend the time between bulb replacements. Stash a few extra bulbs in your cubicle for emergency replacement.
Office Supplies
-
Replace dark colored binders, pencil cups, staplers and other visible office supplies. If the supplies you are replacing belong to your employer, place them in a box and place the box in a out of the way spot on your cubicle floor. Once you have replaced every item with your own brighter version, take the box of employer owned supplies to your supervisor. Request that your employer make a note in your file that states you have turned the items over to them.
Screen Saver
-
Change the screen saver on your computer to something bright and airy such as a picture of the beach or a field of flowers in the sunshine. This very simple change gives your eyes something pleasant to focus on. If you do not have access to the Internet at work, place a picture that you want to use as your screen saver on a USB flash drive at home and install it to your work computer.
