1998 2.2L Chevy Cavalier Performance

The 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier is available as both a four-door sedan and two-door coupe. Two coupe and sedan versions are equipped with a 2.2-liter engine that is less powerful than the 2.4-liter alternative.
  • Engine and Transmission

    • The regular sedan and coupe, RS coupe and LS sedan all feature the 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder (I4) engine with 115 horsepower. All except the LS sedan have five-speed manual overdrive transmissions, and the LS has a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

    Power

    • The torque of the Cavalier 2.2-liter engine is rated at 135 pound-feet at 3,600 rpm. The compression ratio is 9.0:1, and the bore and stroke are 3.50 inches by 3.46 inches.

    Fuel

    • The LS sedan gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The basic coupe and sedan and the RS coupe get 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. All versions have 15.2-gallon fuel tanks.
