How to Remove Windows Validation From the Registry

Windows Genuine Advantage checks to see whether you have a legal copy of the Windows operating system software. The WGA validation message pops up if your copy does not validate correctly. If that message is getting in the way of normal computer operations or you want to get rid of WGA completely, you can remove its registry entries.

  Restart your computer and hit "F8" until you see a menu appear. Select "Safe Mode" from this list and press "Enter."

  Click "Start" and type "regedit" into the search box. Click on the regedit entry that appears in the search results. You need to be logged in as an administrator to access this tool.

  Click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE." A list of folders expands below this entry. Click each of these entries in turn: "SOFTWARE," "Microsoft" and "Windows NT." You may want to maximize the registry editor at this point, as the subfolders have many entries to scroll through.

  Expand "CurrentVersion" and "Winlogon." Click "Notify." Right-click the "WgaLogon" folder under "Notify" and choose "Delete." Restart your computer to exit Safe Mode.
