Family Basket Ideas

  Many times, friends struggle to find a meaningful gift for each member of a family, forgetting that a family basket offers unlimited options. A family basket makes a unique gift, because the ideas focus on family life. Begin by thinking of activities the family enjoys doing together and build a basket from there.

Game Basket

• Family game night builds relationships and creates family bonding, so design a family basket around games. Include a guide book concerning card tips, rules or unknown games. Throw in different decks of cards and poker chips. Add a notebook and pen for games that require score keeping.

  Board games and puzzles belong in a game basket as well. Buy standard games, or search for lesser-known games that seem to fit the family. The difficulty of a puzzle depends upon the family's average age and interests.

Movie Basket

  Another fun basket centers on a family movie night. Add a few movies, with appropriate ratings. To add zest to the basket, design and print fake movie tickets that include the family's name.

  With a movie comes movie popcorn, of course. In addition to popcorn, provide different types of sprinkling flavors and popcorn bowls. Candy, soda and other snack foods are also fun.

Craft Basket

• Create a family basket that allows them to review fun times and make more memories with craft time. Start by adding glue, scissors, stamps, stickers and picture holders to the basket. Add a photo album or scrapbook. Finally, include a gift card so the family can print pictures.

  Crafts can also be expanded to include items for the house. Craft stores sell picture frames, light switch covers and boxes made of plain wood. Add these, proper hardware and a variety of paints to the baskets.

  Another idea is to add plain T-shirts and fabric paint to the basket. Family members can create shirts that recognize their family unity.

Themed Basket

• Prepare a themed basket for a family so they can showcase their fun-loving spirits. If a family particularly enjoys outer space, martians or aliens, create a basket that includes a trivia book, masks and a telescope.

  Other families are made up of magicians. Scholastic.com's "Make It Magic!" gives ideas for a magical basket. Add a magic wand, a book of magic tricks and recipes for making mysterious meals. With a bit of creativity, your themed family basket will greatly please.
