Geforce 6800 Power Specs

    • The NVidia GeForce 6800 is a PC video card released in 2004 by NVidia. It is no longer being manufactured. This card was considered high-end for its day, having an onboard memory of 256 megabytes, a memory clock speed of 700 megahertz, and core clock speed of 325 MHz. It supported both DirectX 9.0c and Open GL 2.0.

    Power-using Components of the Card

    • The GeForce has the equivalent of 220 million transistors built into its processor, which consumes more power than lower-end cards. High onboard memory, fast processing, and an integrated cooling fan all consume additional power.

    Required Power Connections

    • The GeForce 6800 requires needs an adequate supply of electrical power to operate. The unit requires more power than a single cable from the computer's power supply can supply. Therefore, the power supply of the PC has to have two available power connectors available for the card.

    Power Requirements

    • The GeForce 6800 consumes 38.88 watts of power when working, and 16.96 watts when idle, drawing a current load of 2.01 amps. The two required power connections must be dedicated to the card without other components drawing power from the same line. This is typically not an problem with high-capacity power supplies as they tend to have an abundance of connectors. NVidia recommends no less than a 480-watt power supply for problem-free operation.
