How to Apply Labels to CDs

Printable label sheets make creating labels for your personal CDs simple. The label comes precut to fit a CD, including a center hole. Placing the labels on the CD is the most complicated part, as it can be difficult to line up the label correctly. If the label overhangs the center hole or edges of the CD, it causes the CD to become stuck in your player or computer while also making the label peel off sooner. A label applicator ensures the label lines up on the CD correctly every time.

Set the applicator base on a hard surface with the center post facing up. Some applicators require assembly prior to use; refer to manufacturer's instructions for proper assembly of your model.

Place the printed CD label face down on your work table. Peel up one side of the label slightly so you can hold it against the table with your finger. Peel the label sheet off the back of the label slowly as opposed to peeling the label off the sheet. This avoids tears and curling.

Place the label over the center post of the label applicator with the sticky side facing up. Adjust the label so it sits evenly on top of the applicator base.

Slide the CD over the center post of the label applicator with the shiny data side of the CD facing up. Push the CD down by the edges or the center, taking care not to touch the data part, until it is in contact with the label.

Press down on the center of the CD, adhering it to the label. Some applicators come with a plunger. Slide the plunger over the center post and use this to push the CD against the label instead of your fingers.

Lift the CD off the applicator base. Smooth out any air bubbles in the label with your fingertips.
