Measure the length of the gun that you want to use on the rest. This will determine the gun rest size.

Double the measurement from Step 1. Use a tape measure or yardstick to measure that doubled figure onto a very tough, dense canvas material. This material will be the rest for your gun, so make sure it is durable in all weather conditions. Measure four lines, all the length of double your gun length, to create a square, and draw clear, straight lines with a bright marker to identify the measurement.

Cut through the marked lines with a sharp razor blade or scissors. Once the square is cut from the canvas, fold the material in half, then sew the top and left side of the canvas shut. Keep the third end open, to insert the sand filling material.

Pack the dense, sand filler tight into the gun rest. Make the rest full and taught, with very little give. Finish sewing the last edge of the canvas gun rest to complete the project.
