How to Change the Battery on the Garmin Nuvi 200

Garmin Nuvi Global Positioning Systems (GPS) come with internal, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. While they are meant to last for the lifetime of the GPS, multiple charges (especially half charges) will decrease the charge-holding time of the battery. If you have a Garmin Nuvi 200 with a weak or dead battery, you can change it with a battery replacement kit.

Remove the back cover of your Nuvi by unscrewing the two screws on the bottom-back side of the case with the mini screwdriver. Position the case puller inside the groove underneath where you just removed the screws. Pry up the back case cover. Work around the entire case until it separates from your Nuvi.

Disconnect the two cables connecting the back case to the front section. Remove the old battery.

Place two strips of double-sided tape on the top of the new battery. Place it firmly inside the Nuvi. Reconnect the two wires from the back cover to the proper locations in the main section.

Reinstall the back cover by positioning it on top of the main section and pressing downward firmly, starting at the top, until it snaps into place. Attach the screws until snug. Start up your Nuvi.
