Small cars offered by Subaru include the compact Impreza and the sporty Impreza WRX. The government classifies the Subaru Legacy as a midsize car, while the 2011 Outback, Forester and Tribeca fall into the sport utility category.

The Impreza WRX is the only model that is not available with an automatic transmission, while the Tribeca is the only model that doesn't offer a manual transmission choice. If you want a six-cylinder engine, you must choose from the Legacy, Outback and Tribeca.
Fuel Mileage

Government estimates show the 2011 Subaru Legacy offers the best fuel mileage of the group, with 23 miles per gallon (MPG) in the city and 31 on the highway when outfitted with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The Subaru Outback follows closely behind at 22 city and 29 highway MPG with a four-cylinder engine. The Tribeca finds itself at the bottom of the list, with 16 MPG in the city and 21 on the interstate.
